Man arrested for breaking into shop, stealing cigarettes and S$40,000 in cash

A 43-year-old man has been arrested in Singapore for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing cash and cigarettes. The incident was reported to the police on April 6th, and the suspect was apprehended on April 7th by officers from the Clementi Police Division. The stolen items were estimated to be around S$40,000 in cash and S$6,000 worth of cigarettes. The man is expected to be charged with housebreaking and theft, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine. The police have advised property owners to take preventive measures such as securing doors and windows with grilles and padlocks, avoiding keeping large sums of cash and valuables on the premises, and installing burglar alarms, motion sensor lights, and CCTVs.
